Dr. Nancy Martin holds E.P. and P.Eng. certifications through ECO Canada and APEGA respectively. For over two years, Nancy has been working as a water quality modeller at Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD). She provides modelling and technical input to support implementation of the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan (that includes Cumulative Effects Management) and inform Approvals under AEPEA.
Before joining ESRD, and as part of her Ph.D. studies at the University of Alberta, Nancy developed a water quality model for the Upper Athabasca River to help mitigate dissolved oxygen sags in winter. She also assessed passive samplers that can be used in the Lower Athabasca River to monitor naphthenic acids, which have been identified as a main toxic compound of oil sands processed-affected water.
